Big step towards 2030 net zero emissions goal
Global steel giant ArcelorMittal has officially begun power supply from its 1GW renewable energy project to Nippon Steel’s India operations. The move marks a significant milestone in efforts to decarbonize steel production and cut carbon emissions in line with global climate goals.
Located in Gujarat, the green energy facility — comprising advanced solar panels and high-efficiency wind turbines — has successfully completed grid synchronization and started phased energy supply to Nippon Steel’s local joint venture plant.
ArcelorMittal stated this initiative is a crucial step towards achieving its net zero emissions target by 2030. The company added that this renewable energy project would significantly reduce the carbon footprint of steel manufacturing in India.
Nippon Steel welcomed the collaboration, calling it a long-term commitment to sustainable and green steel production. Both firms emphasized that this initiative would strengthen their partnership and support India’s clean energy ambitions.
