ArcelorMittal Belgium has restarted its Galva 5 hot-dip galvanizing line at Flémalle after four years of inactivity, strengthening its coated steel production network in Europe. The restart expands the company’s capacity to produce metallic-coated steel products in thicker gauges for industrial users.
The line was acquired in July 2025 and later upgraded through a major modernization program. Improvements covered roof renovation, coil feeding and uncoiling systems, pickling section restoration, zinc bath upgrades and digital infrastructure development.
Galva 5 will process hot rolled coils supplied from ArcelorMittal’s Ghent plant and serve sectors such as road safety, HVAC systems, industrial equipment and automotive components. The facility can handle hot rolled substrates up to 6.35 mm thick and 1,880 mm wide, supporting demand for high-strength and metallic-coated steel products. For the European steel market, the restart signals improved supply flexibility, shorter lead times and stronger availability of value-added galvanized steel.
