65th meeting of Network Planning Group (NPG) evaluates five infrastructure projects

The 65th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) convened in New Delhi, chaired by Additional Secretary of DPIIT, Sh. Rajeev Singh Thakur, to assess five significant infrastructure projects spanning road, rail, and urban transit sectors. These projects, presented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Ministry of Railways (MoR), and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), were evaluated through the lens of integrated planning aligned with PM GatiShakti principles and the National Master Plan (NMP).

MoRTH: Highway Projects in Goa, Meghalaya, and Assam

- Four-laning of a 45-kilometre stretch of NH-66 in Goa and development cum upgradation of the Mawlyngkhung – Panchgram road in Meghalaya and Assam, including a greenfield stretch of 118 km and a brownfield stretch of 43 km. These projects aim to reduce logistics costs, and traffic congestion, and enhance traffic speed.

MoR: Construction of Rail-Over-Rail Bulb Line in Bihar

   - Construction of a 17.49 km Rail-Over-Rail bulb line in Aurangabad district, Bihar, facilitating grade separation of railway lines, reduced train detention, improved transit time, enhanced logistics efficiency for coal movement to Nabinagar power plant, and increased section capacity utilisation.

MoHUA: Urban Metro Transit Projects in Bangalore and Delhi/NCR

   - Rithala-Bawana-Narela–Kundli (Haryana) Metro Corridor and Phase-3 of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project, covering 44.65 km with two corridors. These projects focus on multi-modal integration, decongestion of roads, travel time and fuel cost savings, reliable operation, and reductions in vehicular emissions and pollution.

The NPG emphasised the pivotal role of these projects in nation-building, offering substantial socio-economic benefits and contributing to regional development by integrating various modes of transport. It also stressed the importance of adequate transition infrastructure for inter-modal interfaces.
