The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved a key construction milestone in Gujarat with the successful launch of a major steel bridge span in Bharuch district. The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) announced that a 130-metre span of a 230-metre (130+100) continuous steel bridge has been launched over National Highway-64 and the Bharuch–Dahej freight railway line near Kanthariya village.
The launched span, about 18 metres high and 14.9 metres wide, weighs roughly 2,780 tonnes and was fabricated in Bhuj, Gujarat. Designed for a service life of around 100 years, the structure forms a critical link on the high-speed rail corridor, carrying the bullet train alignment across both a busy national highway and an active freight route.
Bridge launching was completed in about 12 hours using carefully planned traffic blocks on the freight tracks and diversions on NH-64 to ensure safety and minimise disruption to road users and rail operations. With this span in place and the second 100-metre span to follow, NHSRCL underlined that the project is progressing steadily, reinforcing confidence in India’s first high-speed rail corridor and its complex engineering capabilities.
