Former US President Donald Trump has reiterated that he has "no intention" of easing the existing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Speaking at a business conference in New York, Trump emphasized that the tariffs are essential to protecting American manufacturers and ensuring fair trade practices.
The 25% tariff on steel and 10% tariff on aluminum, imposed during Trump’s previous administration, have been a source of friction with major trading partners, including the European Union and China. Despite growing pressure from industry leaders and global partners, Trump remained firm, stating that lifting the tariffs would undermine US manufacturing and jeopardize jobs.
Industry analysts believe that maintaining the tariffs could lead to higher input costs for US industries but may also shield domestic producers from foreign competition.
