Siemens Mobility has announced a major step toward sustainable transportation manufacturing by expanding the use of low-carbon steel in the production of its rail vehicles, reinforcing its commitment to reducing emissions and achieving climate-neutral operations.
The company will source low-carbon steel from multiple European suppliers, including Sweden’s H2 Green Steel and Germany’s Salzgitter AG, both pioneers in green steel technology. The initiative aligns with Siemens’ broader strategy to decarbonize its supply chain and support the European Union’s Green Deal objectives.
By adopting low-carbon materials in train car bodies and structural components, Siemens Mobility aims to cut production-related CO₂ emissions by up to 70% compared to conventional steel use.
Company executives emphasized that sustainable steel procurement will play a pivotal role in reducing lifecycle emissions of future rail vehicles, contributing to a greener, more energy-efficient mobility ecosystem.
The move also positions Siemens Mobility as a leader in climate-conscious rail innovation, paving the way for wider adoption of green materials across global manufacturing networks.
