Russia’s Severstal-Metiz has upgraded its 2,000 mt press at the Cherepovets plant, aiming to strengthen production efficiency in steel sections. The company has installed an additional heating line at the steel sections shop, a move expected to raise unit productivity by 30%.
The modernization includes domestically produced equipment, induction heating chambers, a workpiece transfer system, and major hydraulic upgrades. The new setup can heat a workpiece for future section production in around three minutes.
Severstal-Metiz said demand for shaped steel sections remains strong across mechanical engineering, road construction, infrastructure, bridge building, and hydraulic engineering. Once the upgraded unit reaches full capacity, annual output is expected to rise by more than 1,300 mt, helping the company better meet customer requirements.
