Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has urged the central government to revive the long-delayed Wazirganj steel processing plant in Bihar. Originally sanctioned in 2008 during the UPA-I regime, the plant remains non-functional, unlike its counterpart in Bettiah, which is operational.
Speaking at an event in Bodh Gaya, Manjhi highlighted the plant’s potential to contribute to local employment and economic development. He emphasized that reviving such stalled infrastructure projects is crucial for the state’s industrial growth.
While acknowledging the popular demand for Bihar to be granted “special status,” Manjhi pointed to several central government initiatives already benefiting the state. These include river-linking projects, thermal power plants, industrial corridors, and upgraded road and rail networks. He stated that these efforts are transforming Bihar’s industrial landscape and should continue with renewed focus.
The call to revive the Wazirganj steel plant aligns with broader efforts to enhance manufacturing capacity and regional connectivity in eastern India, signaling a push toward inclusive economic development.
