In a strategic move, leading conglomerate JSW Group has made its foray into the defence sector by acquiring a majority stake in the extreme off-road vehicle company Gecko Motors Pvt Ltd. The acquired company has been rebranded as JSW Gecko Motors Pvt Ltd (JSW Gecko) under the JSW Defence and Aerospace vertical.
JSW Gecko, led by founders, including Jaskirat Singh Nagra, has clinched a substantial order worth ₹250 crores from the defence ministry. This order is earmarked for the production and supply of 96 Specialist Mobility Vehicles named ATOR N1200. Manufacturing is underway at JSW Gecko's newly established facility in Chandigarh, Punjab, with delivery slated for June 2024.
The ATOR N1200, an indigenised version of the SHERP N1200 amphibious extreme mobility vehicle, will be unveiled at the Republic Day parade. Notably, JSW Defence and JSW Gecko have entered into a joint venture with UK-based Copato Ltd, which includes a technology supply licence agreement for the indigenous manufacture of Specialist Mobility Vehicles in India.
With the forthcoming display at the Republic Day parade, Viktoria Tverdokhleb, CEO of JSW Gecko, expressed enthusiasm for presenting these unparalleled, innovative, and technologically advanced Specialist Mobility Vehicles to the Indian market, particularly to the defence sector. These vehicles boast distinctive capabilities and features and excel in off-road ability and manoeuvrability, setting them apart from their global counterparts.
