Jindal Steel has announced a major expansion of its structural steel manufacturing capabilities at its Raigarh facility, with plans to double capacity from 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 2.4 MTPA by mid-2028. The company said the expansion will increase the domestic availability of heavy and ultra-heavy structural steel sections, strengthening India’s supply base for large-scale infrastructure and energy projects.
As part of the roadmap, Jindal Steel will commission a new dedicated structural steel mill and implement upstream and downstream technology upgrades. The upgrades are aimed at producing larger and more complex parallel flange sections, which are increasingly required for next-generation applications.
Currently, the company manufactures parallel flange sections from 100 mm to 900 mm, with sectional weights up to 333 kg per metre. Post-expansion, production capability is expected to extend to ultra-heavy sections up to 1,100 mm depth and 1,500 kg per metre.
Jindal Steel indicated the enhanced capability will serve demand from infrastructure, refineries, power, renewables, transmission and high-rise construction, while also reducing reliance on imports of heavy sections.
