Japan has launched an anti-dumping investigation into cold-rolled steel coil, sheet and strip imports from South Korea, China and Taiwan, raising fresh concerns across the Asian steel trade. The probe was initiated by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Ministry of Finance after an application from Nippon Steel, JFE Steel and Kobe Steel.
Cold-rolled steel is widely used in automotive parts, home appliances, steel furniture, containers, battery cases and steel pipes. The investigation will examine whether imported material is being sold at unfairly low prices and whether this is hurting Japanese steelmakers.
For regional steel markets, the move could influence pricing, supply flows and future trade decisions. If Japan finds evidence of dumping, anti-dumping duties may be considered, potentially reshaping cold-rolled steel imports in the coming months.
