Infra and railways to be major demand drivers.
Export opportunities increasing amidst global market change.
India's stainless steel sector is preparing for sustained growth, with demand likely to increase by 7-8% in FY 2025, said industry associations and market experts. The demand impulse is mainly driven by higher consumption from infrastructure developments, growing metro rail network, food processing sector expansion, and burgeoning use of stainless steel in consumer goods.
Experts identify that projects such as Smart Cities, cost-effective housing, and green energy schemes are driving needs for long-lasting and corrosion-resistant products. Moreover, the ambitious plans of Indian Railways to expand its reach along with the modernization of passenger coaches with stainless steel bodies and interiors are creating a robust demand pipeline.
Export prospects also look good, with Indian stainless steel producers gaining market share in Southeast Asia and Europe during global supply realignments. Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) predicts 2025 as a growth year if raw materials are kept affordable and government policies remain supportive of local producers.
The industry is still wary of overseas market fluctuations, nickel price volatility, and possible trade restrictions in major export markets.
