The country's largest commercial 25 MW clean hydrogen project is being set up in Karnataka for JSW Steel by the Indian energy company JSW Energy.
The JSW Group company is preparing to become JSW Steel's primary provider of green energy in the future. Given that the hydrogen project is situated near the latter's plant, storage costs could be reduced.
According to Mahendra, projects without storage cost between 20 and 25% less than those that are remote from the client and need storage.
The company has also get 6.8 thousand tonnes of capacity per year from the Solar Energy Corp. of India under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition program.
According to Mahendra, JSW Energy does not intend to limit itself to domestic hydrogen projects, but plans to become a leading supplier of green hydrogen and its derivatives at the commercial level, as well as to make its products cost-effective.
The British industrial group GFG Alliance has signed a new agreement with the South Australian government to supply green hydrogen to its local steel mill from a 250 MW electrolyser under construction near the city of Wyalla. Commercial operation is scheduled for early 2026.
