Hyundai Steel has signed a contract to supply low-carbon steel for South Korea’s expanding national power grid, supporting the country’s transition to more sustainable energy infrastructure. The supply will include high-strength, environmentally friendly steel products designed for transmission towers and other power-grid structures.
The initiative aligns with South Korea’s carbon-neutral goals, aiming to reduce emissions in the construction and energy sectors. Hyundai Steel’s low-carbon products use electric-arc furnace (EAF) technology and other energy-efficient processes, cutting CO₂ emissions compared with conventional steel.
Officials noted that the steel will be used for upgrading existing transmission lines and building new high-voltage structures, helping to enhance grid reliability and accommodate growing renewable energy integration. This project demonstrates the increasing role of sustainable materials in national infrastructure projects, while supporting the domestic steel industry’s move toward greener production.
