The Ministry of Steel has announced plans to hold an open house meeting with industry stakeholders to address concerns over rising steel imports and dumping, which have been impacting domestic producers and pricing stability.
The initiative aims to create a transparent platform for discussions between steel manufacturers, importers, and policymakers, allowing direct representation of industry issues such as cheap imports, quality standards, and policy imbalances affecting fair competition.
The meeting comes in the wake of growing pressure from the domestic steel industry and recent observations by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which highlighted how low-cost imports from countries like China and Vietnam are hurting India’s steel sector.
Officials from the Ministry of Commerce and DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) are also expected to attend to deliberate on import monitoring mechanisms, anti-dumping duties, and safeguard measures.
Industry experts believe the open house will help the government frame balanced policies that protect Indian manufacturers while ensuring raw material availability for downstream industries.
This move underscores India’s commitment to supporting self-reliance and sustainable growth in the steel ecosystem.
