The Goa government has cancelled the registration of 50% of active iron ore traders for failing to present verification documentation as per authorities.

They stated that over 250 iron ore traders were registered with the Goa government's Department of Mines and Geology, and nearly half failed to submit the appropriate documentation for registration renewal, resulting in the cancellation of their rights to conduct business.

According to the sources, when mining activities in the state were halted in 2012 following a court order, the directorate suspended the licenses of iron ore traders. However, with mining activities poised to be resumed, traders were directed to submit documents afresh for renewal of their trading activities, including the lifting of stocks from freshly mined volumes and existing dumps lying across the state.

However, only half the traders complied with the notice seeking renewal of registration, the sources said.
