Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that Gadchiroli district will be developed as India’s first Green Steel Hub, backed by an investment of ₹3 lakh crore under a major clean industrial initiative.
The ambitious plan aims to transform the region — once part of the “Red Corridor” — into a sustainable industrial zone, focusing on green hydrogen-based steel production and renewable energy-driven manufacturing.
The project is anchored by Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd., which is setting up one of India’s largest green steel facilities in Gadchiroli. The initiative will create over one lakh direct and indirect jobs, boosting local development and positioning Maharashtra as a leader in green industrial growth.
Fadnavis highlighted that the project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Net Zero 2070 vision, aiming to make India a global supplier of low-carbon, sustainable steel.
Officials said the government will ensure strong infrastructure, power connectivity, and training support for the region’s workforce to build a self-sustaining green industrial ecosystem.
The announcement marks a significant step in India’s transition toward eco-friendly, high-value industrialization.
