Italy-based Danieli Technologies has secured a contract from Ekinciler Demir Celik to supply a sixth-generation horizontal billet welder for the Turkish steelmaker’s rolling mill, with start-up planned for the second quarter of 2027. The project is aimed at enabling head-to-tail billet joining and is set to introduce Turkey’s first endless rolling operation.
According to Danieli, the new system can deliver productivity of up to 180 metric tons per hour while fitting into Ekinciler’s existing rolling mill layout with limited downtime. The company said the unit will use its sixth-generation K Welding technology for fully automatic operation and continuous billet feeding.
The upgrade is also expected to improve yield by reducing billet gaps and cutting the formation of short bars on the cooling bed. Danieli added that the equipment should help lower operating costs, reduce energy use per ton of rolled steel, minimize material waste, and cut indirect emissions linked to reheating and billet handling.
