The Czech Republic produced 2.43 million tons of steel in 2025, with output staying near historically low levels as the industry continues to face the impact of the steep downturn seen from 2021 to 2024. Over the past decade, the country’s steel production has dropped by more than 50%, compared with 5.3 million tons in 2015. The weakness is largely linked to the halt of primary steelmaking at Liberty Ostrava, now Nová Huť.

Despite the subdued overall output, some product segments showed improvement last year. Long product production rose 14.4% year on year to 2.07 million tons, while flat product production jumped 61% to 805,000 tons, mainly due to the restart of part of the production at Nová Huť. Steel consumption in the country reached 5.5 million tons, while imports climbed 13.6% to 7.5 million tons and exports increased 13.3% to 3.4 million tons.
