CPCB Warns Koppal’s ILC Iron & Steel Plant Over Pollution Breaches
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued a formal notice to ILC Iron and Steel Pvt Ltd, located near the Tungabhadra backwaters in Karnataka’s Koppal district, for violating environmental regulations. The plant has reportedly exceeded permissible limits on both air emissions and wastewater discharges, breaching national pollution standards for iron and steel facilities.
CPCB officials have directed the company to implement corrective measures within 30 days. If the firm fails to comply, it may face strict penalties, including fines or legal action. The iron and steel sector is classified among high-risk industries due to its significant environmental footprint, and it remains under close regulatory watch.
This move is part of a broader push by environmental authorities to enforce stricter pollution control measures across heavy industries, especially those operating near ecologically sensitive areas like the Tungabhadra watershed.
The CPCB’s action sends a clear message to industrial operators about the consequences of non-compliance and reinforces the agency’s commitment to upholding environmental standards nationwide.
