China’s Ansteel Group has successfully completed its pilot project for hydrogen-based direct reduced iron (DRI) production, a breakthrough in the global push for green steelmaking. The project demonstrates the company’s commitment to lowering carbon emissions and transitioning to sustainable production methods.

Hydrogen-based DRI replaces the conventional use of coal or natural gas with hydrogen as the reducing agent. Instead of emitting carbon dioxide, the process primarily produces water vapor, making it a cleaner alternative for iron-making. Ansteel’s pilot project highlights the potential of hydrogen to transform steel production, one of the world’s most carbon-intensive industries.
