British Steel has secured a £70 million export order to supply billet for major port redevelopment projects in Nigeria, giving a fresh lift to its international order book and plant activity. The deal was signed with Hitech Construction Africa Ltd for the modernization of the Tin Can Island and Lagos Apapa port complexes.
Under the contract, British Steel will deliver 120,000 mt of 140 mm rebar-grade billet, with shipments set to begin in spring 2026 and continue over a three-year period. The company said the agreement is one of the largest billet orders in its history and its biggest order backed by UK Export Finance.
The order is also expected to support higher output at British Steel’s Scunthorpe plant, strengthening production momentum and highlighting the role of export demand in supporting the UK steel industry.
